I must say that it is really an easy task to make a GIF animation because there are many. I used GIF Maker website to make my animation. In my story I had three characters. I wanted them to be known at the start of the story so I made a GIF with three photos of the characters as can be seen in the following GIF.

I love pets. Back home I have got a dog and a cat. Yes, both of them live under the same roof in peace and harmony :). I have been looking at the video assignments to select one that I would love to try. I looked at the instant replay assignment and I thought why not make an instant replay of a clip from one of the dog shows that I already have on my computer hard disk. So I selected this clip from the Freestyle Flying Disc Winner – 2016 Purina® Pro Plan® Incredible Dog Challenge® Eastern Regionals video. I usually watch video by Dog Challenge Eastern Regional. All the dogs and their owners are really amazing. They give it their best shot. There has to be a winner of course but I consider most of them winners as the winning point margin is not that much greater.  I really like the dog moving backwards towards his owner, therefore I made an instant replay of that specific part of the video. In the following, I have discussed the different steps that I took to make the video instant replay with Windows Movie Maker.

Here is the video clip with an instant replay:

Step 1

1

I opened the Windows Movie Maker and saved the project to my hard disk.

Step 2

2

I added the video clip by clicking the “Add video and photo” button.

Step 3

3

I was going to make an action replay of the video part starting at 11th second on the video timeline. Therefore I clicked on that part on the video timeline and then right clicked in the video to split the video at 11th second.

Step 4

4

I clicked on the video part I wanted to make an action replay of and then from the “Video tab” reduced the speed to 0.5 of the original speed.

Step 5

5

I downloaded a music clip from Free Music Archive and added it to my project. There are many audio effects that can be added to the video from the “Audio tab”. I added a slow fade out audio effect to make the audio smoother.

Step 6

6

I added a title slide to the video from “Title” on the “Home tab”.

Step 7

7

I added Credit slides to the end of the video from “Credits” on the “Home tab”. I added different credits as can be seen at the end of the video.

A guide on opening and closing credits is available here on BBC Website

Step 8

8

I saved the prepared video for YouTube from the “File” drop down menu. Video can be saved with different formats depending on what you need it for.

Roger Ebert on reading a movie

roger
I must confess that when I started reading this article this did not make any sense. It was all gibberish to me. I believe what I had missed was to actually read a bit about the writer to know what authority does he has on movies. So I looked at Roger Ebert’s profile on Wikipedia . He was one of the greatest movie critic. This is where the article started to make sense to me. I read the article one and right away started reading it again. Most of the things were then clear. I also researched the different keywords from the article and found some great material explaining the different terms used in the article that I have included in my summary of the article. So here I go.

The first technique that Roger describes is about pausing the movie and think about what you see. This is the technique that he used while teaching to his class at University of Chicago’s Fine Arts program. Roger believes tha analyzing still scenes from the movie can make a huge impact on what you understand about the making of a movie from a critical point of view. This techniques was evolved to the “shot by shot” technique.

Roger has also advised to read a few books about films as it is a useful resource to know about the current trends in the film world. He personally started his book adventure by reading “Understanding Movies”, by Louis D. Giannetti.

Roger used the term “intrinsic weightage” that each visual composition possesses. What I understand is that the visual information we digest has by default some characteristics that emotionally appeal to us. Though I am not 100% sure about it.

Rule of third is another principle that has been described by Roger. This rule applies to the position of different characters in a movie scene. Characters to the right of the center of the screen are more dominant than those to the left of the center of the screen. To know more in depth about this rule, I researched the topic about the importance of axis of a screen. I found the following video which has described the three axes in detail. The reason right is more dominant is because moving from left to right has been seen as moving form past to future. I mean the way we write is left to right, gaming characters move from left to right in 2D games to move to their destination and so on.

There are three axis of movement: right and left, backward and forward and up and down. Moving towards camera shows domination and moving away from camera shows weakness. It is obvious in the movie clips in the video above.

I believe that now, after I have read this article, I will be more vigilant while watching movies and would be able to observe it with a critical eye.

Following are the key points I noted down while I was reading the article.

  • He Learned the “just pause the film and think about what you see” from Chicago film critic, teacher and booker named John West.
  • He used this technique in his class at University of Chicago’s Fine Arts program.
  • This technique evolved to shot-by-shots and later named, cinema interrupts.
  • Ask the audience: There are always people in the audience who can answer any question.
  • Read a few books about films like Understanding Movies, by Louis D. Giannetti.
  • Visual compositions have “intrinsic weightage”. What I understand is that the visual information we digest has by default some characteristics that emotionally appeal to us, I guess so.
  • Rule of third: Person on the right to the center is more dominant than the person on the left.
  • Right is futuristic, left is past, foreground is stronger than the background, movement to the right seems more favorable than the left.
  • Three axis of movement: right and left, backward and forward and up and down.
  • Moving towards camera shows domination and moving away from camera shows weakness.

15 minutes photo safari

Link to the Gallery: Photo Safari

I have been thinking about this assignment and didn’t know what place I should choose. I was visiting one of my friend and I was just wandering around the guest room as he had gone to get me something to eat as I was really hungry. At that moment I thought why not to utilize the fifteen minutes and take some photos. I didn’t have a professional camera but I did have my iPhone with me.

The photo that was most interesting to me was the one with a rubber glove. The reason I call it an interesting photo is because there was only one glove with light purple color. It made me think why there was only a single glove and what it actually was for.

The most inventive photo was when I put together the yellow mouse and the light green mobile charger together. The colors were really matching and the background looks really fascinating. I didn’t plan the background though.

So I used the heaven’s gate as a background and then used the magic want feature of Photoshop to crop out Lady Gaga angel photo from a stage performance and put it on the heaven’s gate. Messi has been one of the greatest football player. He has been representing his country, Argentina, for many years.  He has announced that he is going to retire from international football. I am not in favor of this decision as I believe that he is still too young to retire. He has a lot of football left in him. I mean come on he is just 29. Is this the age to retire from anything? He has had a great career and can still extend his career. Scoring a few more goals won’t hurt I guess. He has millions of fans around the world who want to see him playing. Many petitions have be initiated by his fans to request him to take his retirement decision back. I am going to search for such a petition and sign it. In fact I am going to sign many petitions.

Is marijuana really bad?

marijuana is not always bad

Assignment details available at:

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/legalisation/

I am not someone who like to enjoy all the times but I am also not a boring person who hates to enjoy. The main idea behind choosing this image is that marijuana is not a bad thing in itself. What makes it bad is its misuse. Therefore I am in favor of a legalization of marijuana. I believe that each one of us has to show some responsibility. For example is the irresponsible use of Alcohol good? No, it is not. Therefore, marijuana is not bad in itself. Instead bad people have given it a bad name. so who is in favor of legalizing marijuana?

I have designed this image as part of bringing my pet to my school. There has got to be cat teachers. Therefore this is my cat who can got a degree in business administration and is here to talk to us about some business tips. She has been giving lectures on different avenues. I thought that why not I bring her to my school so that she might want to try and get a permanent job here. This way she can accompany me every day to my school and us humans can benefit from her knowledge. I hope that all her students are as happy to have her as she looks happy in her suit.

Homer celebrates too early

early celebration

Assignment details are available at the following link with more details:

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/celebrating-too-early/

There are many people in the world who celebrate before the due time and pay the consequences. There are hundreds of Youtube videos related to it. Here is one of them videos:

I am a great fan of Simpson and especially Homer. In the GIF animation I have tried to illustrate that Homer can also be in a hurry some times when he has a donut. He eats them quickly and starts celebrating expecting his wife to give him another donut. He is sad when he finds out that the celebrations are over as there are no more donuts in the house.
